BEST ERNEST HEMINGWAY BOOKS

These are some of the best books by Ernest Hemingway, The Sun Also Rises (1926), The Old Man and the Sea (1952) and A Moveable Feast (1964) which received positive critic upon their release.

The Sun Also Rises: This book is considered one of the classic examples of Hemingway’s writing style, which has been described as spare but powerful. This was his first novel and considered by many to be his best and most important. This novel takes a look at a lot of the disillusionment and angst of the post-World War I generation of people. The book would epitomize that generation to many for future generations to come.

The story focuses on the flamboyant Lady Brett Ashley and her friend, the hapless Jake Barnes, as they journey from the wild nightlife of Paris in the 1920s to the brutal bullfighting rings in Spain. On the surface, the book is a love story between these two very memorable characters with the many complications that come along the way. Jake was in the World War and had a war wound that made him unable to have sex. Brett’s sexual freedom is central the story as the twice-divorced Englishwoman is very promiscuous in the much more sexually free 1920s.

The novel has kept its appeal over time because it is essentially about what it’s like to be young, although there are parts that have not aged as well. The book was rather popular in the 1970s when it appealed to the lost generation of the Vietnam War who could relate to the post WWI-story.

The Old Man and the Sea: The Old Man & the Sea is a story of a Cuban fisherman and his might torment: an agonizing and relentless battle with a gigantic marlin far in the Gulf Stream. Using a simple but a powerful language, the author Ernest Hemingway takes the themes of courage even in the face of personal triumph and in defeat and transform them into a beautiful 20th-century classic.

At first glance, the book appears just a simple story of an old Cuban fisherman fighting against a marlin, and on the second glance it is a very simple story, you won’t find complex characters. You will find most of part of the story explained in what appears to be symbolism, but the author himself said that there are no symbolism and that the sea is the sea, the boy is a boy and the fish is a fish.

This book is a powerful narrative about the efforts of a person to achieve a certain goal in life and how easy it is to lose that which you have won.The

A Moveable Feast: A Moveable Feast began during the autumn of 1957 and was released posthumously in 1964. The book captures what exactly it meant to be a poor young writer in Paris during the 1920’s. A writer for the Toronto Star, Ernest Hemingway arrived in Paris, France in 1921, approximately three years after the anguish of the Great War and at the beginning of the alteration of Europe culture landscape.

Picasso and Braque were experimenting with the cubist form; James is living in a self-imposed exile from Dublin had just completed writing Ulysses. T.S Eliot served as a bank clerk in London, while Gertrude Stein held a court at 27 Rue de Fleurus. It was during these years that the unpublished Ernest Hemingway gathered the necessary materials for his debut novel The Sun Also Rises, and among these reflective and small sketches are the memorable encounters with a circle of writers and artist, some of which were fated to gain fame and glory while others into insignificance.
