A student of Wheaton College (Illinois) from where she got her degree in psychology and the Courtauld Institute from where she got her Masters in Medieval Art history, Plum’s family was very religious.

They created an environment that was so restrictive that it compelled her to ran away. She hoped to find solace in Chicago. But the university she attended there was just as restrictive. They were more than happy to expel people for dancing.

So the author left Chicago as well. She was 23 when she settled down in Paris. By working with an American company, she was able to secure employment in the country. The five years she spent in Paris where magical.

On the one hand, her life was relatively normal. She went to work, paid her taxes, cooked meals, and slept like everyone else. On the other hand, every time Amy Plum stepped out of her home, she felt like she had just taken her first steps toward a wonderful adventure.

She couldn’t get enough of Paris. It had so much mystery to offer her. The author eventually left Paris for London to pursue her MA. Life took her to New York in the years that followed. She spent years working with art and antiques.

Once she lost interest in New York’s busy lifestyle, Plum fled back to France. The author was teaching at Tours University when she quit, becoming a full-time writer in 2010. Plum was always a voracious reader.

She has fond memories of ‘The Twelve Dancing Princesses’, a story her mother would tell Plum and her two siblings during long car rides. Plum’s mother kept finding ways of embellishing the story to give it more magic.

It had a significant impact on the author’s life. She picked up the reading habit when she was four. Writing entered the picture soon after. As a child, Plum was quite nerdy. She was an awkward A student that struggled with math. And for a time, she hoped to become an astronaut or a librarian when she grew up.

But once her reading and writing habits intensified, she found that she enjoyed making up stories and writing them down. While she was always writing, Plum never took the habit seriously. In fact, she abandoned the activity altogether in university after encountering a few rejections.

The author was convinced that she did not have the talent to produce fiction. So she gave up on the idea of pursuing a career in publishing. Still, she continued to write, but only for fun. Plum wrote stories for herself.

She made another serious attempt to write fiction after her mother died but a friend whose opinion she valued told her that her writing was substandard. So once more, she abandoned her writing dreams, though she continued to write for herself.

Amy Plum’s immigration to the Loire Valley changed everything. Plum started a blog that she used to expose her writing to other people. Her readers responded so positively to her work that the author felt compelled to give writing another shot.

Her first book, a memoir, was never published but it got her an agent. Eventually, she wrote ‘Die for Me’ and cemented herself as a fantasy fiction author of considerable talent.

‘Die For Me’ received a ‘South Carolina children, Junior, and Young Adult Book Award’ nomination.
