Wyer was an only child. She overcame the loneliness by reading. A prolonged stay in the hospital in her twenties following major spinal surgery forced the author to experiment with the written word. With little else to do, she kept busy by writing letters to her friends and family.

Wyer would tell them about the ridiculous events that occurred in the hospital, not to mention the many stories the nurses told her. Naturally, she couldn’t help but add a humorous element to them.

Her audience loved every word she sent and asked her to write more. However, even though she obliged them, the notion of becoming a serious fiction writer never crossed the author’s mind. Instead, she worked as a teacher following her recovery.

She also wrote educational books that used cute illustrations and funny titles to teach children french.

Wyer’s life changed in 2009 when her son left home, and she turned his bedroom into an office. Initially, she dabbled in comedies, taking great joy in pushing people to enjoy life as they aged. Books like ‘Grumpy Old Menopause’ were so successful that the author started appearing on British, New Zealand, and American radio shows.

She also wrote articles for various publications. Her transition into the psychological thriller genre was gradual. But it wasn’t a surprise to her friends and family. Wyer discovered books at an early age because her parents read voraciously.

Her father preferred light-hearted novels. Her mother did not discriminate. She read everything she came across. More importantly, the woman passed every book she read and enjoyed down to her daughter.

As a result, Wyer’s reading habits were not restricted to specific genres. When a health issue forced her to stay in the hospital at seventeen, she read every book her local library had to offer. Even though the author consumed her fair share of Mills and Boon novels, she was just as fascinated by thrillers and crime fiction.

Her English and French literature courses at University ignited her fascination with humor. She couldn’t get enough of Chaucer’s work. But her adoration for darker stories remained strong. She enjoyed dissecting the human mind to understand why certain people did terrible things.

The author was still writing comedies when she realized her books were slowly growing darker. She was tempted to add more twists and turns, but the romantic comedies she wrote wouldn’t permit her to experiment.

So she pitched a psychological thriller. Her editor loved it so much that Wyer was asked to write more stories in the genre. Since then, she has continued to make a name for herself as a crime writer.

Best Carol Wyer Books

The author loves the limelight. If her writing career had failed, she would have become an actress, possibly even a show presenter. Wyer’s best books include:

An Eye For An Eye: DI Kate Young was tired. She was good at her job. However, the medication she was taking and the trauma she was fighting to overcome had strained the detective. As such, when the Force barely avoided a public disaster originating from her bad judgment, her superiors sent Kate away.

They wanted her to rest. By the time Staffordshire Police summoned her back to hunt a calculating killer, Kate was a new woman. She had a ruthlessness that wouldn’t let her rest until she found the culprit.

But as she dug, it quickly became apparent that the murderer was closer to home than she had initially realized.

Little Girl Lost: Detective Robyn Carter got too close. She had no reason to believe that a missing teacher was connected to a murdered millionaire. But her investigation had unearthed several interesting clues, including a link to Abigail, a seemingly perfect wife, and mother.

It was here that things took a nasty turn. Someone was using an anonymous number to send her threatening messages. But Robyn wouldn’t be deterred. She was sure that every answer to her questions was waiting around the corner. But then someone abducted Izzy, Abigail’s beautiful daughter, which added a new wrinkle to the puzzle.
