Ellie, who describes herself as a terrible singer, started writing at a young age. She was in the second grade when she penned ‘The House on the Haunted Hill,’ a story in which two girls went to a haunted mansion after their bikes broke down.
They looked around for a bit, found a repair kit, fixed their bikes, and left. The story wasn’t particularly impressive. It had no plot, and the character development was nonexistent.
But the author is proud of the story because it had terrific descriptors, the kind you wouldn’t expect from a child her age. The story introduced Ellie to the joys of writing.
She spent her childhood reading the likes of Kate Atkinson, Louise Penny, and Agatha Christie. They taught her everything she needed to know about writing novels. As an adult, she doesn’t read quite as much mystery as she would like.
Ellie blames her career. She has found that mysteries are difficult to read when you’re writing them, which is why she usually reads books outside the genre whenever she sits down to pen a new cozy mystery novel.
Like many of her peers, the author tries to write consistently. Her goal is to add two thousand words to her manuscript every single day. When she starts a new book, Ellie will write the draft from start to finish without any interruptions. She makes notes along the way, but she doesn’t edit or revise.
Once the first draft is complete, the author puts the manuscript aside and walks away. She returns months later to review and rewrite her work with fresh eyes. Ellie’s manuscripts go through two or three rounds of revisions before she sends them to her editor.
The author enjoys writing long-running series because they allow her to become intimately familiar with her characters. After walking in their shoes for so many installments, she knows how they talk, how they behave, and how they respond to every situation.
The mysteries are the only challenging aspect. She has to find new ways of keeping them fresh. It should be noted that ‘Ellie Alexander’ is a pen name. The author has published the ‘Pacific Northwest’ series as Kate Dyer-Seeley.
As ‘Ellie Alexander,’ she is primarily known for ‘Bakeshop Mystery.’ The author doesn’t spend every hour of her week writing. She looks for opportunities to go on hikes, which is good because she enjoys testing pastry recipes. The hikes provide a convenient means of burning calories.
Best Ellie Alexander Books
Ellie is a writing teacher. She coaches aspiring writers, guiding them on their publishing journey. Ellie’s best books include:
Meet Your Baker: Juliet was nursing a broken heart. The Culinary School graduate had returned home to Ashland, Oregon, to help her mother. Torte, the family bakery, was doing well enough.
Juliet liked the work because it kept her busy. She did not expect Thomas to worm his way back into her life. The adventure began with Nancy Hudson. She had a lot of enemies, and when she died, few people mourned her passing.
Thomas, Juliet’s high school sweetheart, was investigating the case, but he took every opportunity that came his way to flirt with Juliet. Juliet liked what she saw, but how far was she willing to take things? More importantly, could she afford to pursue romance when Ashland had a murderer on the loose?
A Batter of Life and Death: Jules was ready to prove herself. The Pastry Channel was planning to pay $25,000 to the winner of their reality show, and Jules had every intention of dominating ‘Take the Cake.’
The opportunity would give her family’s bakeshop the attention it sorely deserved. But the fun and excitement Jules anticipated went out the window when a contestant died.
Jules quickly realized that some people would not hesitate to cross every moral line to claim The Pastry Channel’s $25,000 reward.
Jules has no intention of backing out. But if she wants to leave the competition alive, she must find the person that murdered Chef Marco.
