BEST JESS HAINES BOOKS

These are best two books by Jess Haines Hunted by the Others (2010) and Stalking the Others (2012).

Hunted by the Others: Shiarra Waynest work as a detective was far much dangerous even when her clients base were only humans. However, her diminishing finances have forced her to accept almost any job that comes her way just to try and save her firm, and that is if it does not kill her first. Now, she has signed to work for a high-level magician to recover an ancient artifact owned by one of the most influential vampires in the New York fraternity. She knows that her assignment is even more complicated the moment she meets a handsome, mesmerizing vampire Alec Royce. With a hush-hush anti- another group effortlessly trying to recruit her, and her magician killed, Shiarra needs some backup, and she knows where to get it. She calls in her former boyfriend- a werewolf and an insipid magician with some extraordinary talents. However, this might not be enough in a city where magic rules, undead roam and where others are not what they appear to be. Shiarra has just turned to be one secret weapon in a battle between the good and the evil whether she accepts it or not.

The first installment is a fantastic read; it introduces the main character Shiarra Waynest in such a way that you could never expect. She is a private investigator struggling to makes ends meet. With no alternatives available she decides to get a job from a coven of magicians known as The Circle who wants her to retrieve a valuable artifact from Alec Royce, a powerful vampire who runs a large portion of the New York City and soon Shiarra finds herself facing dangers from each corner she turns to. Shiarra is not the typical urban fantasy heroine you will encounter; she has her flaws and comes across as much more inadequate, vulnerable, and unsure of how to handle certain situations than the typical kick butt/ take charge heroine. Shiarra is not unrealistically proficient/ competent in the field of investigation; she does capture the essence of being human and navigating through dangerous and dark territories. Prejudice, fear, and inexperience sometimes make her irrational at times and also she is leery of bitey creatures and does not get want to get close to them. Eventually, Shiarra will lead you to an incredible journey filled with mayhem and danger. Overall Jess wove an excellent story full of supporting cast that help gives the story a sweet flavor and keep you, the reader engaged.

Stalking the Others: Once, Shiarra Waynest was one of the savior guys and then was drawn in the dark realm of the Others. Every group has its agenda and loyalties, but the betrayal by her former-boyfriend only means that she could be on dawn of becoming a werewolf in the next full moon. However, with all the threats tossed against her, and she is not even sure that she will live long enough to find out.

The baffling vampire, Royce wants Shiarra back to his grip, as do police and two powerful werewolf packs. Instead of hiding, Shiarra is making use of her enchanted hunter’s belt and every single P.I. Trick she ever knew, and if she is going to be down, she will make sure that she takes out as many of her enemies as she can- and hope that in the process, she keeps every single bit of humanity she is left with.

Stalking the Others is an action packed and adrenaline-fueled novel in the H&W Investigations series. The plot is more interesting and more enjoyable than its prequels especially after Shiarra finally gets control over her life after all the crazy turmoil’s in her life.
