Born in 1970, Quinn spent her childhood in New England and California. She discovered her love for literature at an early age, although the author’s father disagreed with her selection of reading material.

Quinn was obsessed with the ‘Sweet Valley High’ series. Her father wanted to steer the author towards a more productive genre. He wouldn’t let her read the books unless Quinn explained how they contributed to her literary development.

Quinn argued that ‘Sweet Valley High’ was research material. She wanted to write novels in the future, and the books were an educational guide. But the author’s father did not believe her. He told Quinn to produce evidence for her case, and she obliged, concocting a story and writing the first two chapters.

Rather than resting on her laurels and taking comfort in the fact that she had convinced her father, Quinn took things a step further and wrote a novel. Unfortunately, it was rejected.

After graduating from Harvard, Quinn found herself at a crossroads. The author had a degree in Art History but couldn’t figure out what to do with it, let alone which career to pursue. She thought about experimenting with the Law, but everyone hated lawyers, and Law School seemed annoying.

Business School was out of the question because the powers that be would only accept candidates with at least two years of experience in the workforce, and Quinn knew next to nothing about getting a job.

So, she turned her attention to medical school. The author was convinced that she would make a good doctor. Her parents were flabbergasted when she told them. However, they also supported her decision.

But getting into medical school was easier said than done. Because she lacked the science prerequisites to even apply to medical school, Quinn was forced to tolerate two more years of college.

The author used the time to write Regency novels. Two years later, she was ready to join medical school. But then her agent called and revealed some astounding news. A publisher had snatched up two of her novels after a fierce bidding war.

She decided to write a third novel, which meant postponing medical school for a year. Twelve months later, she postponed medical school again to write a fourth novel. Eventually, the author found herself at another crossroads.

She couldn’t keep postponing medical school. She was determined to give the doctor thing a try before making a decision. So she picked up a scalpel and got to work. But after months of dissecting cadavers, Quinn came to an inevitable conclusion.

Medical school was not her passion. So, she dropped out and became a full-time writer. She doesn’t regret the decision.

Best Julia Quinn Books

The author’s stories reflect her feminist leanings. Her protagonists are strong women who refuse to bow to the oppressive mindsets that pervade their communities. Julia Quinn’s best books include:

The Duke And I: Daphne Bridgerton is not like most women. She’s well acquainted with London’s most eligible young men. But none of them desire her. They appreciate her kindness and wit. But she can’t play the romantic games that captivate them, which makes her perfect for Simon Basset.

The Duke of Hastings refuses to bow to society’s demands. Marriage doesn’t appeal to him. But that hasn’t stopped his friends and family from parading their daughters before him. Simon thinks he can find peace by enlisting Daphne’s help.

He expects their fake courtship to silence the gossip. He doesn’t foresee the spark that ignites unexpectedly between them.

The Viscount Who Loved Me: Anthony Bridgerton was an irredeemable rake. He would never marry, or at least, that is what the gossip columnists thought. They were wrong. Not only was Anthony determined to marry, but he had already chosen a wife. Unfortunately, his future wife’s sister wouldn’t leave him alone.

Kate Sheffield was convinced that Anthony would break his sister’s heart. But is that why she kept meddling in the couple’s affairs? Why did her heart skip a beat whenever she crossed paths with Anthony? Could she trust her motives?
