Lindsay Buroker is an indie author that writes science fiction and fantasy novels. A native of Seattle, Washington, Buroker was three when she started reading. The author blames her mother for sparking her love for the written word.

By the time she was six, Buroker had gone from reading stories to telling stories. Eventually, she started writing them down. Even though she knew from a young age that she wanted to write fiction, Buroker meandered quite a bit, trying her hand at various jobs, including working as a lifeguard, joining the US army (though she has no combat experience), and filling the position of a systems administrator.

When she left the army, the author found that blogging was the one career she could pursue from the comfort of her home. At the time (2003), Buroker had a string of health issues that had complicated the process of finding and keeping a conventional job.

Blogging was her only option. The activity became a challenge down the line once the pain in the author’s hands became a serious hindrance. But she found a program she could use to dictate her work.

By this point in time, the author was already writing novels. She had spent her entire life starting books and then failing to complete them. During her first few blogging years, Buroker decided to hone her craft by enrolling in a creative writing workshop on the internet.

It took her seven years to complete her first manuscript. It wasn’t the first manuscript she had ever written, merely the first one to be published. It took Buroker a long time to write it because she did not work consistently. She kept starting and stopping.

She also used the critique she received, and the lessons she learned from the workshops she attended to refine certain sections. At one point, after realizing that she hated the ending, she rewrote the entire second half.

Like most authors, Buroker was determined to find an agent. She was convinced that she needed one to sell her books. All that changed when she realized that she could succeed on her own by self-publishing her novels.

That is what she proceeded to do. Once her career took off, the author increased her production rate, jumping from one novel in seven years to one novel in a month. In a good year, the author will write and publish ten novels over 12 months.

When she was first starting, Lindsay Buroker wrote by the seat of her pants. She loved the approach because it made the writing process more enjoyable. Because she had spent so many years contemplating her stories, she had no problem keeping track of her characters and their attributes.

In the years that followed, she realized that she could increase her productivity by plotting. Before long, Buroker was writing up to 10,000 words a day, a feat that allowed her to complete her novels in just a few weeks.

Dark Current: Amaranthe and Sicarious saved the Emperor. The empire should have hailed them as heroes. However, no one actually knows about their deeds. Even more infuriating is the fact that Sicarius and Amaranthe have taken the blame for the scheme.

The Emperor will stop at nothing to bring Sicarius to justice. But Amaranthe hasn’t given up hope. She thinks that they can prove their loyalty to the emperor by identifying the source of an illness that has afflicted thousands. Unfortunately, all sorts of enemies are determined to stop them, including shamans and imperial soldiers.

Lindsay Buroker doesn't seem to have an upcoming book. Their newest book is Tested by Temptation and was released on March, 30th 2024. It is the newest book in the Tracking Trouble Series.
