Lorraine Heath is an author with dual American and British citizenship. She writes romance, not only paranormal but YA, historical, and contemporary. She has also written novels using pen names like Jade Parker, Rachel Hawthorne, and J A London. Heath originates from Watford, Hertfordshire where she was born.

Her father, a Texan, was in the air force, stationed at Bovingdon. Her mother was a British beauty queen that won a Max Factor-sponsored contest that earned her a kiss from Ceasar Romero. Heath was still quite young when the family made the move to Texas.

She attended the University of Texas. After graduating with a BA in psychology, she spent several years working for the IRS. Heath was responsible for penning their training manuals.

However, the activity wasn’t fulfilling. She wanted to write fiction. Writing came naturally to the author. She was just seven when she brought her first story to life. It followed a man who fell for a mermaid.

It was her first story but not her last. Heath spent her high school and college years writing. But she couldn’t bring herself to take a serious crack at writing a proper novel. For a time, she was quite busy. It wasn’t just her work.

She had a family to care for. But that was just one part of the equation. The author did not have the patience to undertake the arduous task of writing a novel to completion. Even worse, she doubted that she had the skill.

Even though she is primarily known for writing romance, it might surprise her audience to learn that she came to the genre quite late. For the longest time, Heath had a negative opinion of romance novels.

She only changed her perception after reading ‘Morning Glory’ by LaVyrle Spencer. The book converted Heath, turning her into a diehard fan of romance. She couldn’t get enough of the genre. At first, she restricted her purchases to less provocative romance novels, the kind with innocuous cover art.

But she eventually gained the courage to buy all those novels with bare-chested men and women in sensual poses. It did not take her long to realize that she wanted to write novels set in the genre. It took her a while but she finally overcame the barriers keeping her from writing fiction.

She sold her first novel in the early 1990s. Over the years, her bibliography ballooned. She introduced new pen names and used them to tackle different sub-genres within romance, working with her son to keep some of her voices fresh and unique.

Even though her publishing career is quite demanding, she hasn’t abandoned her day job, not yet. She still writes instructional computer programs. Juggling the two fields isn’t easy. She writes during breaks, at lunch, and late into the night.

Some of her novels require quite a bit of research. Heath has found that she is always learning with each novel, honing her craft, refining her storytelling abilities, making each new project so much better than the last.
