A fan of authors like David Micheal and David Foster, Sakey remembers the moment he learned to read. It was a life-changing moment, comparable to the final piece of a puzzle falling into place and revealing the whole picture. Suddenly, the squiggly lines that had confounded the author for so long made sense.

Sakey immediately put his newfound understanding to good use by producing his first story. Though, he credits his mother for transcribing and eventually sending it to a local newspaper for publication.

By the time he was five, Sakey knew for certain that he wanted to write fiction for a living. His peers were mesmerized by rock stars and astronauts. But the author just wanted to tell stories, and he went on to do just that, attracting a lot of praise for his distinct writing style.

Like many writers, the author couldn’t pursue his dreams straight away. After getting his degree, Sakey spent a decade in advertising and marketing. Rather than holding him back, the experience trained Sakey, teaching him to use the fewest words to deliver the strongest emotional impact.

Sakey’s fans are drawn to the relatability of his message. The author’s objective in most situations is to entertain. He wants audiences to have a good time as they read his stories. However, he also hates novels that are too concerned with the action and the mystery to tell him anything new or interesting about life and society. Sakey cannot appreciate a novel unless he has a vested interest in the characters and their motivations which is why he isn’t afraid to tackle social issues in his works.

The writer’s books are thoroughly researched. Sakey isn’t content to read long articles about the subject matter at the heart of his novels. He wants to acquire a tangible understanding of the experiences of his protagonists, which is why he won’t hesitate to rappel with SWAT teams, shadow gang cops, or dissect the human brain.

With each new novel that Sakey writes, his collection of skills and experiences grows. Though, the mystery author injects even more effort into his writing. Sakey typically writes five days a week. He aims to produce a thousand words every day.

He doesn’t always hit that target because the promotional aspects of his career consume so much of his time. He does his best work in the afternoons. Sakey’s writing process involves a lot of caffeine.

On occasion, he will listen to music, the kind without words, to get his mind in the right mood. Some of his novels are more difficult to write than others. However, he doesn’t believe in writer’s block. As far as he is concerned, the average author is more than capable of pushing past any obstacle preventing him from writing his story.

When writing becomes particularly difficult, Marcus Sakey looks at it as a sign that something has gone wrong with his plot. He will stop long enough to fix the issue before sitting back down to write.
