RaeAnne Thayne is an American award-winning author whose work has appeared on the New York Times Bestseller list. Unlike many of her peers, Thayne did not immediately know that she wanted to become a published author.

She was more interested in pursuing teaching and acting. And if those failed, she would have happily become a lawyer. The author started reading romance at the age of 11. She would sneak Harlequin novels out of her mother’s closet.

Writers like Violet Winspear introduced Thayne to the joys of the genre. It was from this experience that Thayne’s interest in storytelling was born. Though, she still hadn’t set her sights on publishing. Her mother eventually pushed her to take a journalism class in high school.

It was Thayne’s turning point. She fell in love with writing as a hobby. She became one of those rare students that actually looked forward to her creative writing assignments. She went on to study journalism in college, graduating with a degree and landing a job at a local newspaper.

Thayne was so successful as a reporter that she was promoted to the position of editor. It was quite the leap, especially when you consider the fact that Thayne was a sportswriter at the start of her career.

Journalism was an enjoyable field for the author. First of all, she enjoyed interviewing people. She quickly found that everyone had something interesting to say if you dug deep enough. Secondly, the field was so diverse. It wasn’t that uncommon for Thayne to interview country music stars and motorcycle gang members within the same week.

But eventually, her desire to tell romantic stories became all but impossible to ignore. She couldn’t stop her imagination from generating stories. Her interviews would always spark new ideas that she would jot down in her notebook.

The author is convinced that her time as a reporter prepared her for her writing journey. It taught her to work within strict deadlines and to write under pressure. By speaking to so many people, she also learned to formulate dialog, to create interactions between characters that sounded organic.

RaeAnne Thayne finally sold her first manuscript in 1995. She wrote dozens of novels in the years that followed. Over the course of her career, Thayne found that she couldn’t prevent elements of her life from creeping into her stories, though it wasn’t always obvious to her readers.

She also realized that she was always crying even as she wrote the touching scenes in her stories. She took this as a good sign because it meant that those scenes would most likely touch her readers as well.

The author has come a long way. She believes that authors today have it much easier than she did because they have so many ways to bring their stories to readers. Thayne appreciates e-books because they revitalized the interest in books at a time when people were so certain that the written word was dead.
