Samantha embraced self-publishing early on. Many authors choose the indie publishing arena because it gives them the freedom to work at any pace that suits them.
Samantha is not afraid to admit that she only self-published her novels because she had no choice. Her dream was to secure a book deal from a traditional publisher. At the time, self-publishing was just beginning to find its footing. It was not the phenomenon people know today, and it did not necessarily appeal to Samantha.
But traditional publishers and agents kept rejecting her submissions. Eventually, she realized that she had to use self-publishing to get her books to readers.
The author wrote several young adult urban fantasy books before finally penning ‘On Dublin Street.’ This was her first contemporary romance novel. It was inspired by a reader who noticed the author’s affinity for the genre.
The reader in question expressed an appreciation for the romantic sub-plots in Samantha’s YA urban fantasy books and wondered whether the author had ever experimented with romance.
Samantha wrote YA urban fantasy because that was the genre she read. But she had some interest in the romance genre. Although, when she wrote ‘On Dublin Street,’ she did not expect the book to strike such a powerful chord with readers.
The book was initially self-published. But then it attracted the attention of several traditional publishers after selling 200,000 copies in four weeks. Not long after, the author joined Penguin Random House.
However, rather than inserting herself fully into the traditional publishing field, Samantha became a hybrid author. She has her feet in both worlds. The author appreciates the work Penguin Random House does to promote her books. But she still does a lot of marketing in her personal time because it has a dramatic effect on her success.
The Penguin Random House team helps by submitting inventive ideas to the author. They also send her on trips to various countries because her books have an international fanbase.
Her goal in any given year is to publish four books, but only one of them is traditionally published. She works with an indie editor to self-publish the other novels.
Because Samantha has written so many traditionally published and self-published books, she struggles to generate original plotlines. Her primary objective is to create stories that touch people’s hearts.
Her books are more grounded than people expect when they read the synopses. She explores the lives of characters that have to overcome trauma to find happiness.
The witty dialogue she creates is inspired by conversations she overhears and the things people say to her in real life.
She believes that her dialog resonates with people because it is real. For that reason, she doesn’t force it. If she can’t think of anything interesting for her characters to say, she will walk away from those scenes and return to them later.

Best Samantha Young Books
When she isn’t writing fiction, the author makes appearances at publishing events where she talks about her publishing journey. Samantha’s best books include:
On Dublin Street: Jocelyn had fought tooth and nail to escape her demons. After starting over in Scotland, she was determined to live a solitary existence. But then she moved into a new apartment, and Braden Carmichael entered her life.
Braden couldn’t deny his desire for her. But he also knew that commitment scared Jocelyn. So, he proposed an arrangement that would respect Jocelyn’s wishes while satisfying their cravings for one another.
Initially, Braden thought that his moments of passion with Jocelyn were enough. But as time went on, he realized that he wanted more. Braden was not content with Jocelyn’s body. He wanted her soul.
Down London Road: Cole was Johanna’s responsibility. They couldn’t rely on their parents, and Cole was too young to look after himself. For that reason, Johanna made every decision with Cole in mind.
She had no interest in men who couldn’t provide for her brother. But it did not take her long to realize that she couldn’t control her feelings for Cameron MacCabe. The bartender made her weak in the knees whenever their eyes met.
When they became neighbors, Johanna knew that it was only a matter of time before Cam pierced her defenses.
