Sarah Morgan is a British author that writes women’s fiction and romance. Morgan was a curious child. She knew from an early age that she wanted to write stories.

The author was constantly scribbling her ideas down on whatever blank piece of paper she came across. She did not limit herself to a particular genre. Morgan was just as likely to pen a thriller as she was a children’s book.

But life had no interest in creating a direct path for the author to follow on her journey to publishing success. Instead, she took a detour, spending a few years as a nurse.

Her manuscripts do not start the same way. Sometimes, she imagines a scene that acts as a seed, giving birth to a setting, characters, the plot, and more. In other cases, an unexpected line of dialog will suddenly occur to her.

Regardless of the origins, the results are always the same. Once she sets her mind loose, it will continue to generate new ideas until Morgan has a story on her hands. Her goal is to make the conflicts and motivations as strong as possible.

This allows her readers to perceive her characters as real people with relatable strengths and weaknesses. Even though Morgan prefers to write freely, without limiting herself to an outline, the author won’t start writing until she knows the central conflict driving the characters.

Interestingly enough, Morgan’s stories won’t take shape until she finishes the first draft. She appreciates the role revisions play in her process because she uses this stage to enhance the conflicts and motivations.
