The author treasures the work she has done as a wife and mother. Shelley doesn’t believe that she is particularly exceptional in any other sector of her life. Yes, she has a bachelor’s and master’s degree, but the author was never a gifted student.
While she can cook, she would never describe herself as a gourmet chef. And even though she has written several dozen novels, Shelley has admitted that she has encountered better authors.
She can’t even call herself the best housekeeper. But even though she’s so inadequate in other areas, the author is proud of what she has done as a wife and mother. More importantly, she cannot think of any better calling than spending her days caring for her family.
That being said, she has garnered a sizable following of readers that love her work. Shelley spent her childhood in Houston, Texas. After a stint in Colorado (College), she embraced the nomadic life that came with her husband’s job.
He was a salesman, and his position compelled the family to travel frequently. Interestingly enough, Shelley only developed her obsession with the Amish because the family moved to the north of Cincinnati.
At the time, she was unaware of the significant impact her new home would have on her life. Before writing fiction, the author taught sixth grade. She got her master’s in education administration and waited for the achievement to transform her life.
But instead, she fell into publishing. Initially, she wrote inspirational fiction. However, publishers did not care for her stories. But then an editor encouraged her to experiment with Amish fiction.
Back in the mid-2000s, Amish fiction was starting to garner interest. Therefore, Shelley was more likely to stand out. So, she gave it a shot. Fortunately for the author, some members of her church had Amish roots.
Eventually, Shelley found an Amish community she could visit. The people welcomed her with open arms. They were more than happy to help the author with her research.
For her part, Shelley did her best to present them as ordinary people fighting to overcome difficult obstacles. She also found that every book she wrote strengthened her faith.
Fortunately, publishers responded positively to her manuscripts. She remembers writing a synopsis and the first three chapters of the first Amish story and submitting them.
Shelley was not optimistic. But once she sold that first novel, she started churning them out as fast as her schedule could permit.

The author is an active member of her church. Her favorite verse is Romans 12:12. Shelley’s best books include:
Hidden: Anna was forced to flee to the Amish Brenneman Bed and Breakfast because her boyfriend had all the good looks and charm a man could ever want. Everyone loved him, not just Anna’s parents but the whole community.
As such, they had no reason to believe that he was abusing her. Katie Brenneman’s family was more than happy to help Anna. They gave her a place to stay, and she decided to repay them by working at the inn.
The last thing she expected was for Katie’s brother to take a liking to her. Initially, Henry couldn’t stand Anna because he thought she was a distraction. But once he got to know her, Henry saw that she had a good heart. More importantly, she was ready to embrace their way of life.
But Anna’s past was still looming over her.
Winter’s Awakening: Everyone expected Joshua to marry Gretta. For his part, Joshua had accepted his fate. After all, he had spent years courting Gretta. But then a new family entered the picture, and Joshua found that he couldn’t keep the daughter out of his mind.
Gretta could tell that something had changed. Joshua was distant. Whenever they argued, the tense silence between them would persist. Gretta was starting to question her future when Roland came along and showed her what life would look like if Joshua went away.
But even though she likes the way he makes her feel, Gretta knows that she could never love Roland.
