Wood, who eventually got his degree, doesn’t think he performed that well in school, which is why he can’t remember his grades. The only school activity that appealed to him was writing.

Wood was in primary school when he realized that he enjoyed telling stories. The desire to write never went away. Though, he never thought of himself as a writer until his first novel came out.

The author’s friends and family made things awkward by repeatedly introducing him as a writer to strangers. Naturally, people would ask him what he had written, and Wood would fumble with his words as he attempted to explain that he was simply waiting for his publisher to release his first book.

Those long explanations became unnecessary once his debut novel was finally available for audiences to consume. The book was inspired by the author’s obsession with villains. Wood always believed that villains were more entertaining than heroes.

The heroes had a code that drove them to act the same way every single time. But the villains were unrestricted, and that made them more engaging. After hunting for novels with interesting antiheroes, Wood finally decided to write one.

The author’s novels are deliberately cinematic. Wood has no patience for books with unnecessary fluff. He doesn’t want to know what the protagonist eats for lunch every day or the color of the curtains in their room.

He prefers stories that get to the point as opposed to meandering through unnecessary details, and his books reflect that mindset. Wood’s novels do not have the padding that weighs other books down.

They are fast-paced and exciting, designed to mirror an action movie. Wood writes for readers like him, people that have short attention spans. He doesn’t want his audience to skim sections of his book because they want to get to the meat of the scene.

Additionally, Wood’s primary goal is to entertain. He keeps his politics to himself, and he hates authors who use their stories to force their philosophies down readers’ throats.

The author’s books are not a vehicle for teaching or educating his readers. He wants his audience to have a good time. He has also admitted that his novels are not realistic.

From what he has seen, real-life espionage is relatively dull. Spies spend more time crunching numbers and analyzing data than shooting bad guys and getting in car chases.

Therefore, Wood calls his books believable but not realistic. As far as he’s concerned, believability is more important than realism. The author has a newfound appreciation for eBooks. Initially, Wood resisted the technology.

But later on, he came to appreciate the convenience of eBooks. The author loves the fact that he can read any book at any time.

Best Tom Wood Books

The author has cited The Lord of the Rings as the most influential book he has ever encountered because it showed him that books could be entertaining. Wood’s best novels include:

The Hunter: Victor was an excellent killer. The freelancer was cold and ruthless, a lone operator without a name who always got the job done. The mission in Paris was simple enough.

An anonymous client provided the instructions and made the payment. Then Victor leaped into action, performing his task efficiently. The last thing he expected was for an ambush to send him on the run.
Now, Victory must unravel an international conspiracy while evading hunters as ruthless as him.

The Enemy: Victor and the CIA had joined forces to perform a task. They had three targets to eliminate, three strangers that had to die. Victor wasn’t worried. He was the most efficient killer in the world.

But something was amiss. With each hit, Victor realized that more was going on than his partners had revealed. A conspiracy was afoot, and he couldn’t trust anyone, not even the people fighting by his side.

Before long, the noose had tightened. Victor was the next target, and he had no means of escape.
