Yasmine Galenorn writes urban and paranormal romance and fantasy. The pagan author was born in 1961. She was just three years old when she decided that she wanted to write fiction for a living.

Yasmine made the decision after learning that ordinary human beings made the books she loved. The revelation blew her mind because, at that age, she assumed that the books just appeared out of nowhere.
Once she understood that people like her could produce the stories she loved, writing and publishing became the primary driving factors in her life. She started by telling her mother stories.

Later on, she sat down and wrote them. By the time she was 9, the author was dabbling in poetry. Before she knew it, writing had become the most important component of her life, a tool that allowed her to escape her abusive childhood.

Yasmine never attended high school. She knew after three days that she couldn’t survive in the environment. None of the cliques appealed to her. If anything, they filled her with anxiety and stress. Fortunately, the powers that be saw reason and sent her to college, where she thrived.

Soon after, she discovered theater, and it forced the author out of her shell, giving her the confidence to speak in public. Along the way, she took English, literature, writing, and journalism classes.

One 16-credit program at Evergreen State College was particularly challenging. But it showed Yasmine how to critique. The classes took a toll on her because she had to expose the poems she wrote to her class. But the experience was eye-opening.

As a published author, negative opinions of her work do not hurt Yasmine the same way they do her peers in the field. She started writing full-time in 1996.

The fact that she was her family’s primary breadwinner encouraged the author to work hard. Yasmine initially wrote nonfiction. In fact, she sold seven nonfiction books before her husband’s fortunes soured in 2000.

It began with a misdiagnosis that destroyed the couple. Then the dot com fallout took her husband’s job away. Her mother was the icing on the cake. After fighting cancer for two years, she was finally on her last legs.

During this period, Yasmine accepted a contract for a nonfiction book. She was already burned out. But they needed the money, so she took the advance and wrote the book within six weeks.

But by the time she submitted the manuscript, the author was a shell of her former self. It took Yasmine several weeks to recover. By the time she was ready to write again, the author realized that she needed a fun project, and nonfiction wouldn’t cut it.

She wrote three chapters of a goofy story that a friend and agent loved. He gave her some feedback which she applied to the following chapters. By the time she finished the mystery novel, Yasmine knew that her talents were wasted in nonfiction.
