She spent her days dealing with victims of domestic abuse and sexual offenses. She wrote and self-published ‘Paranormal Intruder’ after an event traumatized her.

Caroline wanted to outline her experiences with the paranormal. Once she finished the book, the author wasn’t content to move on with her life. She had a void she could only fill by writing, which is what she did, penning a story about a police detective’s encounter with the paranormal.

Caroline has continued to churn out thrillers and crime fiction stories in that same vein, books led by fictional detectives that are not bound by the red tape that restricts the actions of real detectives.

The author relies on her experiences as a police detective. Though, she doesn’t use real events, cases, and characters in her books. Instead, she uses what she knows about law enforcement to paint an authentic picture of the challenges detectives encounter regularly.

She loves psychology and researches the topic heavily, which is why many of her stories are psychological thrillers. Caroline enjoys writing about serial killers that she can dissect to give readers a better understanding of their motives.

As a full-time writer, she wakes up at seven-thirty because she has children who must go to school. Once the kids are away, she starts writing. But her attention span won’t let her write for long periods, which is why she has breaks in between where the author answers emails and engages her fans on social media.

Caroline has to stop at some point during the day to collect her kids from school. She dedicates a few hours to them before returning to her manuscript, either plotting or writing.

The author prefers to plan her stories before she writes them. She uses various tools, including sticky posts, Scrivener, and Excel. While she always outlines, Caroline doesn’t set anything in stone.
She gives her characters as much room as they need to change the direction of the story if the need arises. In the beginning, the author was so dedicated to her craft that she would publish three books annually.

But she doesn’t work such long hours anymore, which is why it takes her six to nine months to deliver the first draft of a new book. She encourages aspiring writers to persevere.

From what she has seen, the publishing industry is open to everyone willing to listen to criticism.
Caroline doesn’t like reading her books once they are published because her writing skills are constantly improving, and she would cringe if she saw all the mistakes she made with her earlier manuscripts. Once a book is done, the author leaves it in the past and moves on to the next one.

Caroline Mitchell Awards

Caroline has been shortlisted for International Thriller and Nashville Awards.

Best Caroline Mitchell Awards

One of the biggest highlights of the author’s career is the day the International Thriller Awards shortlisted her. It gave her the opportunity to meet George R.R. Martin and Lee Child. Caroline’s best books include:

Silent Victim: Emma is not just another loving wife and mother. She killed the teacher who seduced her during her teenage years. Her crime would have gone unnoticed if her husband, Alex, hadn’t secured a promotion, compelling them to move to a bigger house.

With a buyer already lined up, Emma had one option. She had to destroy all evidence of the murder before they moved. But then she dug up the shallow grave hiding her victim and found it empty.

Truth and Lies: DI Amy Winter’s life took a nasty turn when she received a letter from Lillian Grimes, her mother. Lillian was evil, a serial killer responsible for several murders in previous decades.

Amy did not want to play her biological mother’s games. But Lillian had a bargaining chip. She was ready to reveal the locations of some of her victims, but only if Amy played along.

Now, as her colleagues search for a missing girl, Amy must confront the demons of her dark past. She doesn’t realize that Lillian is still pulling her strings from behind bars.
