What’s a Ghoul to Do? This is the first installment in the Ghost Hunter series and it introduces the reader to the main character, M.J Holiday. Since she can see ghosts, Holiday works as a ghost buster. One of her latest clients believes that the death of her grandfather was due to foul play. Thus he seeks out the services of M.J Holiday. Upon arriving on the scene together with her partner, Gilly, it becomes evidently clear that there is more than one spirit in need of help. Furthermore, it also becomes clear that the solution lies with the living and not the dead.

Since this is the first installment in the series, the author takes her time to carefully introduce the characters and the setting, thus, the mystery picks midway through the storyline. The storyline has several leads as who the murderer is. This, in turn, will leave you making guesses, only to be blown away after a few paragraphs. Furthermore, the storyline so many secrets which are answered as the story progresses. In this book, the author shows us the responsibilities, role of a psychic, dedication and integrity. Victoria Laurie masterfully educates the reader of what it takes in this line of work and also in the process entertain us with exceedingly fantastic characters and plots. The author’s ability to craft a fine story with mystery, romance, and action mixing the extraordinary with the everyday, makes this installment, a one of a kind read.

Another installment that performed extremely well in the Ghost Hunter Mystery series is Demons are Ghouls best friend. As this book opens, the reader gets to learn that Dr. Sable truly loved the ghostbusting process. Therefore, he initiates a relationship with the main character, M.J Holiday. Since he is financially stable, Dr. Sable and the two Ghostbusters purchase all kind of new equipment such as night vision camera’s, energy detectors, electronic energy detectors, video monitors, digital cameras and many other devices. It does not take long before all these set of new equipment come in handy. One of M.J’s friend stops by to inform her that her niece had been chased by a man with an axe as she was leaving school. However, the problem is that the school had security camera’s in place and it only caught the girl running across the way with no one visible chasing her. Is M.J Holiday going to uncover the mystery? Only time will tell.

  1. At first I was going to say that I should suggest this series in my book club as a joke because of the ridiculous titles. I mean, “Ghouls Just Want to Have Fun”? “Ghouls Gone Wild”?? “Ghoul Interrupted”?! I see you, Victoria Laurie!

    However, I think we could give at least one a chance because the author claiming to be a professional psychic brings up a lot of good discussion topics. Is there such a thing as having psychic powers? If so, does the author do a good job of portraying them in her books? Are there no more books in the series because the author ran out of girl/ghoul puns? Lots of great discussions will be had!
