Lindsay Chamberlain is a forensic anthropologist and archaeologist. She is also a bone analysis expert and proficient in identification techniques. Her expertise makes her an invaluable asset in the investigation of crimes as she can often see and draw conclusions from crime scenes that the hard-boiled police detectives miss. The novels always have old and new crimes that Lindsay solves using her uncanny abilities, which often seem like magic until she explains her deductive reasoning.

The first novel in the series opens to Lindsay and colleagues digging up a Native American archaeological site outside Merry Claymoore. While they unearth the usual dried corn and ancient pottery, what is even more interesting ate the bones of a man that could not have died more than 100 years back. However, the local sheriff needs Lindsay’s expertise in identifying a set of bones presumed to be those of some missing children. Things become even more interesting and muddled when some snooty lawyer that had fought tooth and nail to have them expelled from the archaeological site turns up dead.

Lindsay’s first order of business is to find the lawyer’s killer, and while at it help to track down a suspected serial killer. In the midst of all the new crime, she also needs to do justice to the lone skeleton that she had found on the archaeological site. What follows is an intriguing story as Lindsay reluctantly finds herself engaged in amateur sleuthing, which brings in all the danger and excitement that make for such a titillating mystery.

BEST LINDSAY CHAMBERLAIN BOOKS

A Rumor of Bones: The first novel in the series is one of the most highly regarded in the series. With a nicely woven subplot of a disturbed local that will not leave Lindsay alone, and fascinating sexual tensions between Lindsay and her male coworkers, it is hard to imagine how any work is done. Nonetheless, the passion is only a spice to the secrets and mystery of cold and new cases that surround the life of the lead protagonist, and those of her hometown Claymoore.

Skeleton Crew: The fourth novel in the series cleverly intertwines the present with the past. An archaeological crew is digging up a 500-year-old galleon that went aground off the coast of Georgia. Most of the story revolves around the diary entries of one of the passengers on the ship. When the team unearths a skeleton on the dig, Lindsay suspects that this was no simple murder, and uses the passenger’s diary to try to unravel the crime. Things get even more interesting when trying to locate a galleon sunk near to the first one, the team finds themselves targeted by looters who circle the area like vultures. A few injuries and deaths of the crew, and Lindsay knows she is in a race against time to solve the crime against her colleagues, and while at it unearth the second ship’s mysteries.

Airtight Case: This book is a suspenseful and intriguing read that opens to an amnesiac Lindsay who wakes up in hospital after a gruesome attack that nearly got her killed. With no luck getting to the bottom of the assault case, she leaves town to join an archaeological crew deep in the mountains, an activity she hopes will help her relax. What follows is an intriguing story as the dig is filled with whispers of crime, rivalry, and undercurrents that hint that the attempt on her life may be linked to the project. But as her memory starts coming back, the menacing threat grows ever closer.
