He studied English at Emmanuel College and Library, Archive, and Information Science at University College, graduating with an MA. Andrew has had the privilege of wearing numerous hats over the course of his life. That includes working as a laborer, boat builder, teacher, librarian, and editor, to mention but a few.

He started writing full-time in 1981. His RSI (Repetitive Strain Syndrome) diagnosis tends to complicate the author’s writing process. Where possible, he will write in a notebook or on a computer.

But on occasion, he has no choice but to dictate his stories. Sometimes, he does this in his workroom. His method involves a lot of walking. But if the weather is particularly appealing, he will sit under an apple tree.

Andrew Taylor was ten years old when he decided to pursue fiction and publishing. Once he realized that he had a talent for telling and writing stories, Andrew made it his mission to become a published author.

His dedication was partly driven by the realization that authors could succeed without wearing ties. Later on, once he matured, Andrew realized that storytelling appealed to him because the art allowed the author to create worlds and settings that he could manipulate like a God.

Sherlock Holmes was the first character to truly engross the writer. He was eight at the time. Enid Blyton’s ‘Hurrah for Little Noddy’ had planted the seeds but Sherlock Holmes allowed them to bloom, sparking Andrew’s interest in crime fiction.

He couldn’t get enough of the genre. He loved the fact that it was so bold. Crime fiction had no interest in pretending that it was anything other than a tool for entertainment. It understood what it was and once it sunk its hooks into Andrew’s heart, it refused to let go.

His first novel was called ‘Caroline Minuscule’. It came out in 1982 and it received an award from the Crime Writer’s Association of Great Britain, showing the author that he had chosen the right path. Andrew received additional awards recognition in the years that followed.

Besides writing novels, the author pens crime fiction reviews as well as articles about the genre. You will also find him at libraries and festivals.

Best Andrew Taylor Books

Despite his considerable experience, the author still describes writing as a long and difficult process. Andrew’s best books include:

The Ashes of London: 1666 was a tough year. London was gutted by a fire. Nothing could stop it, not even the cathedral of St. Paul. James was there, watching as the fire reduced the cathedral to ruin.

The government informer had a job to do. As they rummaged through the remains of the cathedral, someone had discovered a body in a tomb. The discovery immediately raised suspicions because the tomb should have been empty.

Someone had gone so far as to mutilate the corpse. Now James is on the trail of the culprit. The government wants him to find the killer. But accomplishing the objective is easier said than done. The threat of foreign invasion has placed the city on high alert.

James has no intention of giving up. But a vengeful woman is standing in his way.

The American Boy: Thomas Shield was just a tutor trying to teach an American boy and his best friend, Charles Frant in 1819. But he made a mistake. Thomas couldn’t stay away from Frant’s beautiful mother.

He should have steered clear of the intrigue surrounding the unhappy woman’s family. But by the time he saw his mistake, it was too late. A brutal crime had occurred and Thomas was caught up in the wave of consequences that followed.

Unless the tutor removes himself from the web of lies, sex, and murder that has gripped him, he runs the risk of losing everything he holds dear.
