The book introduced readers to Thomas Prescott. Pirog was at a low point when he wrote the novel. A girl had wreaked havoc on his heart, and the author’s opinion of himself was quite poor. He felt flawed.

As such, it isn’t that surprising to learn that Thomas is just as flawed. The protagonist is an ordinary fellow, and he was at a low point when his life changed.

Pirog doesn’t see the point in writing about characters who have everything together. Heroes like Thomas are more appealing because they appeal to ordinary readers, many of whom struggle with flaws and weaknesses.

The author is not a fan of ‘Unforeseen’ because he was so immature when he wrote it. The writing makes him cringe even though Pirog knows how young he was when he penned the book.

However, it isn’t all bad. The author is proud of the humorous bits in the novel. He continues to inject humor into every story he writes. Although, it isn’t something he plans.

The humor manifests naturally, which makes sense to Pirog because, from what he has seen, you cannot plan or outline humor. Some authors are funny while others are not.

Pirog is a funny author. The humor in the Thomas Prescott books unfolds organically because he has poured so much of himself into the protagonist and has an intimate understanding of Thomas’ mindset.

The humor contributes to Pirog’s overall objective, which is to entertain. From what he has seen, some writers cannot embrace their primary role as entertainers. They don’t realize that every story they concoct is supposed to entertain their readers.

Pirog doesn’t think he would have attained so much success if it wasn’t for the humor.

The author is a plotter. He creates in-depth outlines. He also runs the story through his imagination like a movie. This doesn’t mean he’s married to his plan.

Pirog leaves room for changes to occur. However, he has to know how the book ends because his novels are mysteries, and you cannot produce a compelling mystery if you don’t know your destination, not to mention the identity of the villain.

The most interesting aspect of the author’s writing process is his penchant for casting the characters of the movie in his head. He doesn’t stop at attaching real movie stars to the roles in his manuscript. He will also take inspiration from their backgrounds, using elements from their lives to make his characters richer and more three-dimensional.

Maintaining suspense throughout each book is easier said than done. Pirog succeeds in this arena because of the numerous suspense thrillers he has read over the years.

He encourages aspiring authors to do the same because they will soak up the tropes and universal formulas of the genre. Pirog’s favorite writers include Michael Crichton, Janet Evanovich, and Nelson Demille.

Best Nick Pirog Books

The author loves God. He’s thankful for the talent God gave him. Pirog’s best books include:

3 a.m.: HenryBins is a disturbing sleep disorder. Patients are only awake for a few hours at a time. Henry was a victim of the ailment. His day began at 3 a.m. and ended at 4 a.m. when he fell back asleep.

Because he lived one hour at a time, Henry’s life was relatively simple. But then he woke up one day and heard a woman scream. He looked outside and saw the US president leaving the house across the street. Now, Henry has an important decision to make.

Unforeseen: Detective Thomas Prescott was retired. Reading ‘Eight in October’ was the last thing he wanted to do. The book explored a series of murders that occurred throughout October.

Thomas saw no point in skimming the true-crime thriller because it took inspiration from his case, and he did not want to relive the worst days of his life.

According to the book, the serial killer was no longer a threat. Tristen Grayer was dead. But Thomas knew better. Tristen was still out there, and the murderer proved as much by resurfacing on the 1st of October and claiming the life of a special person from the detective’s past.
