The McCarthys of Gansett Island series starts with the book Maid For Love, which wsa released in 2011. In it, we are introduced to Mac McCarthy, who is seen as the favourite son of Gansett Island, a sort of figure head of the island. He has returned to Gansett Island to help his father sell the family resort on the island and is looking to get back to the mainland as soon as possible. While heading to McCarthy’s Resort Hotel, he knocks over Maddie Chester, one of the housekeepers at the resort. Mac, feeling a sense of duty to Maddie, moves in with her to help her recover from her injuries, and also help tend for her son. From there on, Mac has to come to terms with the fact that moving on from Gansett Island might not be as straightforward as he had previously hoped.
The series continues to chronicle both the McCarthy family’s relationships and friendships, but also visitors to Gansett Island who find themselves at McCarthy Resort. Thanks to this, many of the characters are recurring, and their stories continue throughout the series.
No better example of this would be the seventh book in the McCarthys of Gansett Island series, Longing For Love, which was released in 2012. In it, we catch up again with Tiffany Sturgil, who we have met in previous Gansett Island books, but now comes to the fore in a story of her own. While opening her new boutique on Gansett Island, and being caught up in the festivities of spring Race Week, Tiffany reminisces about Blaine Taylor and the time they spend with each other the previous autumn. Now that her personal situation has been smoothed out, she feels she is ready for love with Blaine, but she needs to find out if Blaine is ready, and also has to get her business life sorted out at the same time. While all this is going on, characters we were introduced to in previous books make appearances to continue their storylines. Joe and Janey continue their story together, Stephanie’s restaurant enterprise is ready to open and Mac and Maddie’s story also continues, along with a whole host of other favourites on the island.
The Gansett Island series has a very loyal fan base, and it’s all thanks to the characters and the continuing stories that progress as the series progresses. Each book is like revisiting old friends you might not have heard from in quite some time.
