The series was credited for marking the beginning of the Young Adult Era, a time period that saw an explosion in the number of young adult books and movies being released. The Twilight Saga’s popularity has waxed and waned over the years, though its impact on popular culture remains unchanged.
The Twilight books center on Bella Swan. When she is first introduced in Twilight, the first book in the series, Bella is struggling to adapt to her recent migration to Washington where she must carve a new life out for herself alongside her father, this after her mother decides to go traveling with her athlete of a husband.
Bella isn’t the most outstanding of girls. More often than not, Bella will blend into the background. As such, she is surprised to attract the attention of Edward Cullen, a mysterious but handsome boy.
What starts as simple flirtation grows into something more intimate. This is despite all the puzzles that seem to surround Edward’s life. And just when Bella begins to imagine a future with her mysterious suitor, her world turns upside down when she learns that not only is Edward a vampire but he comes from a family of vampires.
What follows is a long and arduous journey filled with plenty of love, loss, and sacrifice as Bella struggles to make sense of her place in her new supernatural world. Bella’s life is made more complex by the emergence of Jacob Black, an attractive boy that is also a werewolf, and who isn’t shy about admitting his strong feelings for Bella.
When Bella isn’t struggling to choose between the two boys that will literally kill one another for a chance to claim her love, she’s facing off against the various supernatural threats that begin to take notice of her because of her relationship with Edward and his vampire clan.
Twilight Saga Awards
Stephenie Meyer has won numerous awards for her work on the Twilight Saga, this including the British Book Award in 2008 (Breaking Dawn) and the Book Sense Book of the Year Award (Eclipse).
The Twilight Saga has also garnered Meyer many state awards such as the Georgia Peach Book Award for Teen Readers, the Colorado Blue Spruce Award, and the Texas Lone Star Reading List Prize.
This isn’t taking into account the Kid’s Choice Award that the whole series won in 2009.
Twilight Saga Books into Movies
The Twilight Saga was adapted into a five-part film that began with Twilight in 2008 and ended with Breaking Dawn Part 2 in 2012. The movies were massive successes, dominating the box office and etching Stephenie Meyer’s name into the record books.
Best Twilight Saga Books
Twilight Saga is still one of the most popular young adult series to date; it spawned a whole new generation of readers and aspiring writers, with some of the best books in the series including:
Eclipse: Graduation is fast approaching, but school is the last thing on Bella Swan’s mind. She holds the hearts of two boys in her hands, and she doesn’t have that much time to choose between Edward and Jacob.
Vampires and werewolves have been at each other’s throats for a very long time and Bella’s decision could ignite that struggle once again.
Meanwhile, a malicious vampire with a thirst for revenge is on a killing spree in Seattle, and it’s attracting the wrong kind of attention.
Breaking Dawn: Bella Swan knows for a fact that she loves Edward Cullen. Her feelings for the vampire are not in doubt. Yet her connection to Jacob Black has always been a source of confusion for her.
But now Bella is approaching that point of no return where she must choose to either pursue a frail and mortal human life or give into the dark and become an immortal. The decision will change her life forever, initiating a series of unexpected events and putting everyone she holds dear in danger.
