As the plot line progresses, the Baudelaires continues to confront various mysteries surrounding their family and conspiracies that involve a secret society known as V.F.D which has connections to both Olaf and their parents as well.
Absurdist sexuality characterizes the series, and Victorian Gothic tones and the books are remarkably known for their sarcastic storytelling, dark humor and anachronistic elements and numerous literary and cultural illusions. These books have been classified ass meta-fictional and postmodern writing, while the plot evolution in the later novels is cited as an examination of the psychological process of change from the innocence of childhood to the complexity of maturity.
