KEY News is one of the premier news stations in New York City that is inspired by Jane Clark’s time working with CBS before she became an author. The novels follow a diverse set of characters as they deal with murder mysteries, amid the intrigues and politics of working for a news company.

The first novel in the series “Do You Want to Know A Secret?” starts out with the bright young woman stunned by the death of a close friend, who has in all likelihood been murdered. The murderer is now after her and is willing to kill to prevent her from ever finding out the truth. She struggles through it and nearly is killed, before the murderer goes insane and turns up dead.

The novel just gets more interesting as Eliza Blake, a young widow now finds herself in perilous circumstances as people around her start falling like flies. Bill Kendall her coworker and old friend has allegedly committed suicide. What follows is a series of suspenseful subplots that include AIDS, psychiatrists, religion, a mentally ill homeless man, a political election, and embezzlement from charities. It is a Mary Higgins Clark-esque novel, which has won the author many fans over the years.

Do You Want To Know A Secret?: The first novel in the series is one of the KEY News most popular. The novel is a great mystery that will have you guessing before offering up a pleasant surprise at the end. The story unfolds from different character perspectives, which all contribute, to the pieces and bits in the puzzle. The heroine Eliza is the young widow taking care of a four-year child. The news anchor is a well-known face on the KEY News channel. The novel offers great insights into power politics in the journalism world as it reports on major stories in the 1990s.

Let Me Whisper In Your Ear: The adrenaline-charged third novel in the series. A dark mystery ensues when two thrill seeking boys ride the Cyclone on Palisades Park, only for one boy to emerge from the roller coaster. The secret of what happened to the other boy would remain shrouded in mystery for decades, before Laura Walsh of the KEY News series gets interested in the case. In a macabre turn of events, Laura finds herself in the midst of a chilling nightmare, when one of the most famous anchors in the station falls of a Manhattan rooftop and dies. Delving into her colleagues past, she unearths a shocking secret that leads to the missing boy and her own past. Desperate to get to the bottom of the mystery and track the vicious killer, Laura soon finds herself dreading the worst – the next obituary to be written may just be hers.

Nobody Knows: This is another awesome thriller in the series with one of the darkest plots yet. Cassie Sheridan has one of the best jobs in the world, as she has been assigned one of the best reporting beats in Washington D.C. But suddenly her career hits the wall, when she makes a critical mistake. A killer is on her back waiting and watching until she asks for a transfer to Miami, away from her friends, her family, and the power that Washington gives. It is while she is working in Florida that she gets what is probably her biggest story in her career. But she may just lose her life as the killer of a young woman will do anything to keep his crime hidden.

  1. Is unputdownable a word? Because I think it should be. Unputdownable perfectly explains how I’ve felt about the KEY News series.

Eliza Blake is an awesome heroine as the host of KEY News who managed to solve crimes in addition to her reporting. The way Mary Jane Clark writes keeps the character consistent from book-to-book and each one is a page turner. This series is unputdownable and I highly recommend it.
