Jonathan Moeller is the author of this series who describes himself as being over six feet tall with piercing blue eyes like Conan and the bronze-colored hair of a warrior king. In addition to the sheer amount of fantasy and sword-and-sorcery novels, Moeller is also a computer repairman and has written numerous computer books under the Computer Beginner’s Guide label. In addition to the Cloak Games, he has also written the popular Demonsouled, Tower of Endless Worlds, and The Ghosts series of books.

Ordinary life in the 21st Century came to a climactic end when a gate to another world opened. Elves poured through and conquered the earth. Nadia Moran couldn’t have done anything to stop the conquest because that was three hundred years ago.

She grew up in a world where the elves ruled. Under the leadership of the Exiled Queen, the earth has grown stagnant. Its people have been transformed into soldiers and launched into conflicts against the queen’s enemies on their elven homeworld.

Nadia’s parents died unexpectedly. She was left alone to care for her brother. And she would have been happy to steer clear of all the supernatural drama playing out around her. But then her brother contracted a magical illness, the kind that had no obvious cure and which threatened to kill him if Nadia did not act to reverse its effects.

The heroine’s salvation took the form of Morvilind, an Elven Lord with a taste for exotic treasures. Morvilind had the power to cure Nadia’s brother of his illness. But the treatments had a steep price, one that Nadia had to pay beforehand.

Morvilind needed a thief, a competent figure that could stealthily sneak into dangerous locations, hoodwink all the right people and acquire all the little artifacts the Elven Lord so strongly desired to add to his collection.

Nadia had the competent part down. But she knew that her world was far too dangerous for a human thief to succeed in relieving the magical entities that called earth home of their hard-won treasures.

So she understood that she had no choice but to accept Morvilind’s offer to teach her magic, for there was nothing she wouldn’t do, no mission she wouldn’t undertake to see her brother cured of the ailment that made his life so difficult.

The Cloak Games series is Nadia Moran’s story. Each installment finds the heroine undertaking a new mission on her Lord’s behalf, one that pits her against both human and magical foes.

Nadia knows that her actions present a significant threat to her life. Elves do not look kindly upon thieves. However, they are even less forgiving of humans who practice magic.

Nadia must keep both her profession and her supernatural powers a secret. She does what she can to balance the rigors of her thieving efforts with her determination to give her brother a normal life.

The Cloak Games novels are generally short in length and straightforward in the stories they tell. Each novel has a heist at its center that almost always goes wrong, forcing Nadia to improvise.

Best Cloak Games Books

The Cloak Games novels have been commended for being engaging and exciting in their storytelling approach despite being so predictable, with some of the best books in the series including:

Thief Trap: This is the first book in the Cloak Games series and introduces us to Nadia Moran and the unique world she lives in. In 2013, there was a gate opened to another world which brought Elves to Earth which they quickly conquered by crushing all resistance to them with their magic. Now, three hundred years later the Elven High Queen rules Earth with the humans used as soldiers to fight in the High Queen’s war against Elven traitors.

Nadia Moran doesn’t care about any of that, the Rebels or the High Queen. She is only trying to save her baby brother who needs treatments to keep him alive from a fatal disease, treatments that are quite expensive. Nadia is a very good thief and uses those skills along with her magic to get what she needs. Unfortunately, the Elen Lord Morvillind has a hold on her and forces her to do his bidding. She does what he says in order to keep her alive, but the missions he sends her on could threaten her own life.

Last Judge: Nadia is a thief. She doesn’t want to steal but her master has given her little choice in the matter. This time, she has to steal an item from Last Judge Mountain. Last Judge Mountain was a military base the United States government utilized before the elves came.

Nadia has heard enough about the things waiting in Last Judge Mountain to know that if she goes in there, she might never come out.

Sky Hammer: Nadia has spent a significant portion of her life working for Morvilind, an elven archmage, mostly stealing for him. She thought Morvilind could keep them safe. But now events have spiraled out of even his control.

A rebel warlord is determined to destroy elven control over the earth by burning the entire planet down and remaking human civilization in his own image. And unfortunately, he has found the one weapon that can help him achieve his goals.
